It`s a boy!!! and a girl

Two more faces from my Suzi blu class.
Of course, the boy gave me no end of trouble, being a boy. It was our first assignment with colored pencils. I don`t like colored pencils, which shows. I like them when they`re water-soluble. Which those are. So my next step will be to add water, and paint him.

Then I did a girl, based on a model I adore from one of her students. I thought the woman was stunning, so I was inspired to follow the proportions, see if there was something I could learn there. Drawing with a ruler: I guess that`s the secret of right proportions, the golden mean and all that.

Her mouth is all wrong, completely unreal. But I can see my mistakes, so I guess it means I`m getting there.

I`ve added this person, done this afternoon. It needs more hair. But I think the proportions are starting to happen. Hand eye coordination is starting to happen to let me do what Suzi recommends for ``pretty faces``.

  1. Even if you don't like her mouth, I actually think she is a better drawing than your boy. she looks more real and I love her turban or scarf or what ever it is she has on her head.

  2. Yes, the girl looks more realistic. But the boy is more like the art faces in a lot altered art nowdays. Looking forward to more and seeing your progress.

  3. I don't know Sox, I think they look pretty good. I'm seeing a pretty good mouth on the girl. Her whole face and head thing are really nice. The boy looks a little punk. But I'm not sure what features make a boy look like a boy... I'm still waiting to get into the class. I'm approved but had to send another request for invitation so I hope I'll be in my tomorrow.

  4. I like these! You're good at faces. I love the way you draw the eyes. My favorite one is on the bottom. Nice shading too!! :-)

  5. Hi --

I saw your note about the big porcelain crow on the InThisHouseandGarden group, and I just had to click on over to your blog. I thought maybe you'd have a photo of the crow. (Maybe next time?) But thank you for bringing me to your blog. Love the pencil faces, especially the woman with the long scarf -- love the eyes. And I looked further down, and I love your post with all the great paintings. Maybe we're not seeing the "true" colors, but what I see I really like. You've got some talent. Thanks for sharing.

  6. I love the last one - w/ the least amount of hair - she looks daring and so feminine! Great drawings, Sox - your work is beautiful, as always! xoxox!

  8. Sox; your drawings are coming along very nicely. Boys are hard to draw - why is that? Maybe it goes with being a boy as you said? lol. Really nice.
