Post Vegas paintings

I had a little 'event' during the Art and Soul retreat in Las Vegas, during a painting class, yeah, a painting class, where I found myself unable to produce anything I liked.

Blame it on the weird vibes of the town, the loud lights, the expectations that we could produce an 'intuitive' collage, I just couldn't paint. Finally, after for disastrous paintings, I produced this one:

Considering the theme was "the feminine icon', this came out weird.

Back in Vancouver island, I just couldn't paint. I did everything but... I  made the little frames on yesterday's post, but these are just for fun, not real paintings.

Finally, yesterday, I got near a canvas and pulled the paints. Here is the larger one, a 20x16 hardboard panel:

I started playing with alcohol inks on top of acrylic paints, and it makes the colors really shine. You can click on the picture to see the texture and the details.

I made a smaller one, just with the alcohol paints as an experiment. This little panel is 8x10.

  1. Sox - I really like that large one - the one where you said you experimented with alcohol inks over acrylic painting. You also had some collaged pieces in it didn't you, and some stamped patterns I can see? I love it! So much depth and texture - it's really very interesting. Inspires me to paint on some canvases again too and just experiment, like you did!

  4. I've never tried the alcohol inks with acrylic paints, but I have to say, after seeing what you've done .... wow! The textures and colors are just spectacular. I also prowled around your other posts with other things you did at the retreat. What an amazing experience that must have been! You learned so many interesting techniques and saw such amazing art! Lucky you! (I bet it's nice to be back in your own bed, tho, isn't it! lol) nancy

  6. These are just great! I love seeing what you create and I must say, you are prolific (in spite of your muse taking a vacation - she probably needed it.) Now, you are both back together and ready to make beautiful music again!

  7. I really like your large painting. It looks ethereal yet homing in to the sun. Maybe you are blowing the dark cobwebs of Las Vegas out of your head.

I goofed and tried alcohol inks in a journal of mine. Not good! They leave halos as if you put a spot of oil down on the paper. I'll have to try them on acrylics some time.

  8. I'm glad your muse is back. I'm sure she was recovering from stimulation overload! Your paintings are beautiful...rich in color and texture. I could just zoom in and look and look.

  9. WOW... I am such a novice, (over from the ART group) ... may I ask why colors you used in the last painting? I love that golden color! It is a combination of the last days of summer/beginning of fall to me. The best time of year, in my opinion! Wonderful work! I truly love it (are you selling it?)
